History

Ghana's city, Accra, is alive and hopping, and its past is just as colorful as its markets. The Ga people, who called the city Nkran at the time, were the first to live there in the fifteenth century. The British, who occupied the region in the 19th century, later changed its name to Accra. Accra was made the capital of the Gold Coast, as Ghana was formerly known, and was crucial to the country's independence movement in the middle of the 20th century. Accra is a booming metropolis with a vibrant music scene, a rich cultural legacy, and some of the tastiest street food you've ever had.
