Banking

Banking in Ghana plays an important role in the country’s economy, affecting businesses, workers, families, investors and everyday consumers. From traditional bank branches in Accra to mobile banking, digital payments and mobile money, the financial system has changed dramatically in recent years. Ghanaian banks provide savings accounts, loans, mortgages, business financing, foreign exchange and other financial services, yet challenges remain around bank charges, interest rates, access to credit and public trust. Inside our project for Accra Ghana, we examine banking in Ghana, the history of the banking sector, major banks, financial reforms, digital banking and how the banking system affects ordinary Ghanaians and the wider economy.
