Clothing

Ghana has become the world’s leading importer of secondhand clothing, receiving approximately 15 million garments every week. Driven by the “fast fashion” model—characterized by rapid production and low-quality materials—this trade has devolved from a system of reuse and aid into a severe environmental and social crisis. Nearly 40% of the clothing arriving in Ghana is of such poor quality that it is immediately discarded, resulting in 70 metric tons of textile waste entering the ecosystem daily.
