Visiting Ghana multiple times is crucial. A single visit, especially during peak tourist seasons like December, might give you a skewed perception. You need to experience the country in various seasons and situations to get a true feel for everyday life. Visit when there are fewer tourists to see how you really feel about living here long-term.
2) Have a Plan
What’s your plan?
Are you planning to work, start a business, or retire? Where do you want to live? Understanding the local economy and job market is essential. Spend time scoping out different areas during your visits to determine the best fit for your lifestyle and goals.
3) Save Adequately
Financial Preparation
Saving money is crucial. Depending on whether you’re coming short-term, long-term, or to start a business, your financial needs will vary. Consider the cost of housing, transportation (buying or shipping a car), daily expenses, and business startup costs if applicable. The more you save, the better prepared you’ll be.

In Ghana, who you know can be just as important as what you know. Establishing good contacts is vital. Whether it’s for business registration, finding a job, or navigating bureaucracy, having the right connections can make a significant difference.

Life in Ghana moves at a slower pace compared to places like New York or New Jersey. Patience is key. Tasks and processes may take longer, so adjust your expectations and plan accordingly.

“Do as the Romans do.” This saying applies everywhere. Understanding Ghanaian culture and lifestyle is essential. Some behaviors and customs that are common in the U.S. might be viewed differently here. Being culturally aware will help you integrate more smoothly and avoid unnecessary friction.

Discover More
Ghana is more than just Accra. While the capital is bustling with opportunities, other regions offer unique experiences and possibilities. Depending on your field of interest, places like Takoradi for the oil industry or Kumasi for a more local experience might be better suited for you. Explore different regions to find the best fit for your goals.
